The week’s guest host was Alex Scott, fresh off a challenging Strictly week (it was when Neil was injured). The guests were singer and Queen frontman Adam Lambert, and Dame Joan Bakewell who was promoting the Portrait Artist of the Year.
It was time for the Countryfile Ramble for BBC Children in Need. This year Matt was taking on their longest ramble (6 miles) along the Ridgeway from Barbury Castle to Avebury. His companion was a 14 year old boy – Ethan – who has cerebral palsy and this would more than double the longest distance he had walked before.
Of course, the challenge was completed but not without pain and a lot of effort. It had rained heavily before the event and puddles, mud, and slippy chalk paths are not a good combination when using a walking frame
This show came from the Forest of Dean where Matt got to be active. Firstly he helped build a hibernaculum for adders and then helped schoolchildren explore wildlife. He then headed to a social enterprise that was reviving crafts and helped with tanning, bodging, willow-weaving, and blacksmithing
A crowded hour long show opening with comedian Bill Bailey on the sofa. Later on the new Team Rickshaw were announced and joined the sofa for a chat (and the announcement of Sir Tom Hunter’s generous donation). Finally, Dafne Keen, Ruth Wilson, and Clarke Peters joined them to talk about His Dark Materials.
Matt had been off to the World Gymnastics the previous week so he returned for this Monday show. Karren Brady and Claude Littner from The Apprentice were the sofa guests and we also had some Taekwondo demonstrations in the studio.
There were a couple of guests on this night’s show – both actors. David Suchet joined them to talk about his new memoir “Behind the lens: My life” and then later Anna Maxwell Martin joined them to talk about the new series of Motherland.
The main guests were actors Amanda Holden and Tom Rosenthal talking about their Ancient Rome-set comedy Plebs. Also on the sofa were Julia Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo, talking about her new book.
Matt was just on a featured spot in this show which came from The Lake District. Instead Matt was in South Wales meeting his Countryfile ramble partner Ethan and getting to know him in preparation for the upcoming ramble.
A little out of order as this aired on 22nd September and I’d already carried on with The One Show! It was time for the annual reappearance of competitive sheepdog trials on TV and Matt, as usual, was providing commentary. So a few less pictures than a regular show, but lots of air time for the voice.
The main guests on this show were actors Sean Bean, Julia Brown and Jonah Hauer-King, promoting their new drama World on Fire. Later Kym Marsh also joined the crowd to talk about her new show For Love or Money.
